We're facing a public health crisis.
Maternal mortality in the United States is a public health crisis. It has more than doubled since the 1980s, and is increasing every year. Black women are 3x more likely to die in childbirth than white women. And, we are an anomaly among developed nations in that we are the only country where maternal mortality is actually INCREASING, rather than decreasing.
We must do something about this. Our politicians need to know that we see this problem and demand they work to address it. Join us in asking the Senate health committee to make this a legislative priority. We'll deliver this letter, along with your signatures, to their office.
Dear Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Chair Lamar Alexander, and ranking member Patty Murray,
America has the highest maternal mortality of any developed country, with numbers increasing every year. 2-3 women die every day from pregnancy and childbirth-related causes, half of which are preventable. This is a public health crisis and it MUST be addressed. There is no reason why it should be safer for a woman to give birth in a developing country than here in America.
As your constituents and as concerned patriots, we demand that you make this a legislative priority.
Sincerely,
